Chapter Zero Spain - Chapter Zero Spain
OUR HISTORY
The Climate Governance Initiative mobilises boards to accelerate the transition to net zero and build climate resilience.
The Climate Governance Initiative is a non-profit organisation developed in collaboration with the World Economic Forum and based at the Centre for Climate Engagement, Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge.
It exists to develop and support a global network that mobilises chairs, non-executive and independent directors on every continent to take climate action by enhancing their knowledge and skills in climate governance. Its rapidly growing global network has Chapters in over 70 countries worldwide, reaching more than 100,000 board members. The full list of chapters can be found here.
The goal of CZS is to contribute to the decisive action by non-executive directors of companies and other entities in Spain committed to the ecological transition and the fulfillment of decarbonization goals that allow the development of a sustainable economic model , respectful of the environment and oriented to human progress.
The training in environmental sustainability of its members.
The exchange of experiences.
Support in the design of action plans.
That they contribute to the fulfillment of the emission reduction targets agreed at the 21st lecture of the United Nations Parties for climate change in Paris in 2015 by 198 UN member states and for the implementation of the objectives contained in the European Green Pact of December 12, 2019.
The final shared goal is a new global Economics with zero greenhouse gas emissions in 2050. The European Union has other more ambitious goals and each economic agent can set its own goals to effectively contribute to the fulfillment of the shared final goal that inspires the Chapter Zero initiative in the field of organizational governance.
The University of Navarra is the host institution of Chapter Zero in Spain (CZS) and the administrator of the "global curriculum" of the Climate Governance Initiative in Spain.
The eight principles of the Climate Governance Initiative with which Chapter Zero Spain is aligned are:
The board should take responsibility for ensuring the organisation's long-term resilience to climate risks.
The board should be properly informed about climate-related risks and opportunities and able to make relevant decisions.
The board should implement the right board and committee structures to ensure that climate risks and opportunities are understood, managed and reported.
The board should ensure that management fully identifies climate-related risks in the short, medium and longterm, assess their materiality, and takes appropriate action according to the materiality of the risks.
The board should ensure that management factors material climate-related risks and opportunities into the organisation's strategy, risk management process and investment decisions.
The board should align executives' incentives with the long-term success of the organisation. This may include climate-related targets in executive incentive schemes.
The board should ensure that the organisation discloses its material climate-related risks, opportunities and strategic decisions to all stakeholders - especially investors and regulators. These disclosures should be included in flnancial reporting.
The board should stay informed on current best practice in climate governance by maintaining dialogue with peers, policy-makers, investors and others.
